Neuromuscular relaxation

Neuromuscular relaxation is the process of the patient performing a series of exercises that reduce the nervous activity and contractile tension of the skeletal muscles.

It includes various muscle contractions performed by the patient according to the original instructions. Each specific type of emotional arousal corresponds to the tension of a specific muscle group.

Muscle relaxation (relaxation) is used to combat anxiety and emotional stress, as well as to prevent their occurrence. The beginning of neuromuscular relaxation is associated with the name of the American psychophysiologist E. Jacobson.

Used in the program "Antistress" and relaxation training.

Indications for use

Therapy is prescribed for such diseases as encephalopathy with asthenic, vascular, hypothalamic syndromes, neurosis, tension headaches, autonomic dystonia syndrome, migraine and depression.

Contraindications

Neuromuscular relaxation is not desirable for diseases such as

Parkinson’s Disease; multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, as well as oncopathology of the nervous system, the consequences of injuries and diseases of the spinal cord and brain, mental disorders and drug addiction.
